For use by the Tiki community: Tiki Software and Community Dashboard

What data should I track?
Who is the audience?

Goal: Tell the story

Possible to
Compare over time (evolution)
Comparison to peers (industry)

  • Design to a single screen/page
  • Ensure adequate context
  • Use an appropriate level of details
  • Keep design simple

In general

How can we improve Tiki (as an application) to be a better dashboard tool.

Internal data (from Tiki app)

External data (not in Tiki app)

  • Get data from external sources with tools like:

Dogfood for the Tiki community

Beyond improving the software, how should we do it to improve our community.

Internal data (from Tiki app)

  • Each *.tiki.org site should have activity evolution chart
    • top-5 participants
    • most active pages, etc

External data (not in Tiki app)

  • Compare to other projects
  • Compare over time
  • Aggregate data

Watch out for:

  • Indicators that can be cheated. (just to get good stats but health is not better)
  • When mailing list posts go down, it doesn't mean the community is decreasing, because activity is transferred to the wiki.
  • Number of active contributors: how do you define "active"?

Advantages

  1. More community members will have global overview
  2. Marketing/promotional tool like http://tiki.org/Top-10+stats
  3. Attract talent for weak spots

A simple Drag & Drop Widget Dashboard

  • So users could pick from some existing modules
    • Weather
    • RSS Feeds
    • Etc.
